Worksite Phases of work

Work on the new Champlain Bridge, begun in May 2015, will span 42 months and will end in late 2018. All roadwork, including the final connections between the existing highways and the new bridge, will be completed in the fall of 2019.

Timeline for the new Champlain Bridge:

Preparatory phase:

  • Construction of three temporary jetties abutting L’Île-des-Sœurs, the Seaway dike and Brossard: June to November 2015

Western and eastern approaches :

  • Prefabrication of certain parts: fall 2015 to spring 2017
  • Maritime excavation: fall 2015 to fall 2016
  • Installation of footings, piles and header joists: winter 2016 to summer 2017
  • Installation of superstructure and deck: fall 2016 to spring 2018
  • Finishing work: summer 2017 to summer 2018

Cable-stayed section of the bridge:

  • Main pylon: fall 2015 to spring 2018
  • Rear span toward the St. Lawrence River: fall 2015 to spring 2017
  • Main span straddling the St. Lawrence Seaway: spring 2017 to spring 2018
  • Finishing work: spring 2017 to fall 2018

Timeline for highway work:

Highway 15 sector (Montreal)

  • New Île-des-Sœurs bridge: summer 2015 to summer 2017
  • Highway 15 southbound: fall 2015 to summer 2017
  • Highway 15 northbound: summer 2017 to fall 2018
  • Final connections: spring to fall 2019

Highway 10 sector (South Shore)

  • Temporary works: fall 2015 to summer 2016
  • Reconfiguration of access to the new Champlain Bridge: summer 2016 to summer 2018
  • Final connections: fall 2018 to fall 2019
  • Opening of the new Champlain Bridge: End 2018

  • End of all roadwork: Fall 2019
