The main pylon reaches full maturity

It is with great pride that the teams dedicated to the work of the main pylon have completed the last concreting, thus reaching its maximum height of 170 meters, slightly surpassing the mast of the Olympic Stadium. This final step completes the realization of a great adventure, punctuated by several important milestones. Here are the main ones:

  • October 2015: Beginning of drilling and concreting of the 42 piles of the future pylon, the first permanent construction activity carried out under the project.
  • April 2016: Concreting of the two footings and pier starters of the main pylon, which represent the two largest concreting of the project with 1000 cubic meters each, two weeks apart.

  • September / October 2016: Installation of 44 prefabricated segments of the lower pylon in record time of 34 days.
  • Fall 2016 / Winter 2017: Installation of the lower cross beam, which is a composite structure of the pylon, weighing 3400 metric tons, and 22 prefabricated segments of the upper pylon.

  • July 2017: The main pylon is now dressed with its bow tie, manufactured on site, a centerpiece of 350 metric tons.

  • October 8, 2018: Almost three year after the drilling of the first piles of the main pylon, the last of the more than 30 concrete operations of the upper pylon is completed in the climbing forms.

What remains now is to remove them from the structure in order to unveil to the public this new hallmark of the Montreal landscape.
